John is an internationally recognized author with over thirty years of experience in counseling, consulting, and training. He has authored over 100 reproducible life skills workbooks with Ester Leutenberg on topics such as stress management, substance abuse, domestic violence, and developing and maintaining effective personal and intimate relationships. In addition, John has authored 31 career assessment instruments and ten books.
John has experience as a therapist in prison settings, private practice, mental health centers, and university settings. John’s work has been featured in the Associated Press, as well as in numerous newspapers, including The Washington Post, Tampa Bay Times, and The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and on MSNBC television and CNN Radio. John also appeared in the PAX/ION television series “Success without a College Degree.” John earned a Doctor of Education degree in Counselor Education from Virginia Tech. He resides in Radford, Virginia, and serves as the President of CCA, Inc. He recently founded the LifeSkills IQ Institute to research, develop materials, and promote the efficacy of life skills in preventing mental illness and promoting mental wellness.

The LifeSkills IQ (LSIQ) Institute is a prominent "mental health think tank" dedicated to researching ways to help people live with joy, hope, and resilience. The LSIQ Institute was founded by John Liptak in 2005, following his discovery that life skills intelligence is more critical for success than general intelligence (IQ). In addition to designing and creating over 100 reproducible life skills workbooks and 30 assessments, John has developed individualized curricula focused on life skills training to meet the needs of government agencies, schools, and business development agencies, all while promoting mental wellness.

John spent four weeks in Romania helping counselors and teachers develop an emotional intelligence curriculum they could use countrywide. John deeply understands how developing a greater life skills IQ can help you achieve your programmatic goals. John uses an interactive group process whereby professionals working in the agency or school create materials they can use with John's help.

John traveled to Hong Kong, China, to help teachers and social workers develop a curriculum that fosters self-esteem and confidence, enabling students to overcome their problems by focusing on future success. John delivered the keynote address at their Conference and provided training services over two weeks. John believes in collaborating with administrators and executives when creating curricula.
